Placenta Encapsulation

Serving the Greater CNY Area

Increase Energy

Thyroid hormones pass through into the placenta and contribute to your baby’s development. When taken during the postpartum phase, these hormones may assist with metabolism and energy levels. THe increased iron from your placenta also contributes to the increased energy levels.

Balance Your Hormones

By consuming your placenta, you reintroduce important hormones that were lost immediately following delivery, and then by weaning yourself of the capsules slowly, allows your body to make an easier transition.

Faster Recovery

The placenta contains high levels of prostaglandin and oxytocin, this stimulates involution of the uterus (returning to a former size), and helps to reduce blood loss, when consumed. The placenta also contains inhibitors of urokinase, which can help reduce or stop bleeding.

Increase Milk Supply

Your placenta contains the hormone human placental lactose (hPL) which stimulates the production of prolactin, the hormone that produces milk.

How Do I know If Encapsulation is Right For Me?

After delivery, you may experience blood loss and fatigue, and will have a drop in your pregnancy hormones, all of which factor in the development of the “baby blues” and postpartum depression. Your placenta can aid in your postpartum wellness by replenishing your system with natural iron and protein and supplying rich amino acids and essential fats. Your placenta has the ability to heal, sustain and strengthen, and was made by you, for you.

  • GONADOTROPHIN: The precursor to estrogen, progesterone and testosterone
  • PROLACTIN: Promotes lactation
  • INTERFERON: Stimulates the immune system to protect against infection
  • THYROID STIMULATING HORMONE: Boosts energy and helps recover from stressful events
  • CORTISONE: Combats stress and unlocks stores of energy
  • PROSTAGLANDINS: Anti-inflammatory
  • HEMOGLOBIN: Replenishes iron deficiency and anemia
  • GAMMAGLOBULIN: Immune booster that helps protect against postpartum infections
  • UROKINASE INHIBITING FACTOR & FACTOR XIII: Stops bleeding and enhances wound healing
  • CYTOKNES: Help in the making of new cells to heal and replace damaged cells and tissue
  • STEM CELLS: Help to repair damage done to the body caused by childbirth and helps you to heal and recover quicker
  • OXYTOCIN: For pain and bonding; produced during breastfeeding to facilitate bonding of mother and infant. In   pharmaceutical form this is a very addictive drug because it promotes a feeling of connectedness with others and is often referred to as the “love” hormone

Yes, absolutely. Talk with your health care provider so they know you plan to take your placenta home with you.

Delayed cord clamping is encouraged and does not interfere with encapsulation. Neither is cord blood banking, unless the company you choose wants to keep the entire placenta as well (unlikely but you should check with the company prior to booking your encapsulation with us).

Group Beta Strep (GBS) is not a contraindication for encapsulation. The process of encapsulation kills off bacteria, including GBS, if present. You can assure your placenta will be processed safely for your consumption.

If you have Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, OR HIV, then we cannot process your placenta.

“The encapsulation process was so easy from start to finish. Chris answered all of my questions and was so knowledgeable. I experienced a great boost in my milk supply compared to my first child when I did not choose to encapsulate. Added bonuses were the sweet mementos she included with my pills. Would recommend to anyone interested!”

“Chris’s services are wonderful and quick! I had a multitude of options to choose from, and was able to select two different options for how I wanted to receive my processed placenta. The capsules were so easy to use and the tincture has really come in handy. Both are packaged in a dark glass bottle for preservation and come with an instructional pamphlet for dosage and product care. My products were prepared within just a few days after the placenta left the birth place, and my husband picked them up with no issues. The products were packed into a nice gift bag with a few nice touches, including some beautiful art made from my own umbilical cord! Thoughtful, professional, and expedient! I’ll be using this service for my next babies.”

Caitlin Gainey

“I’m so so glad I found Christine! I used her twice for encapsulation. While I’m a health nut, it’s a bit of a crazy idea to really embrace but I am very certain my postpartum recovery went smoothly because of it. I had abundant energy and felt like I eased out of the pregnancy hormones which tempered my mood, rather than falling off an emotional cliff- yikes! She has excellent information regarding the process and answered my questions as I had them. I felt very comfortable with her as a result of her materials and reassuring conversation. I hope more women consider using her for this under appreciated service.”

How It Works

Submit Our Contact Form

If you are interested in encapsulating your placenta contact us as early in your pregnancy as possible so that we can put you on our calendar. We will be happy to answer any questions you might have.  We will then send you the paperwork needed to move forward. Sign the contract and send in your retainer fee and you will be all set until delivery!

Notify Your Provider

Let your care provider know that you plan on keeping your placenta after birth. If you are delivering at the hospital,  take any additional steps needed to smoothly release your placenta to you after delivery. Find out what your hospital’s policy is for the release of placenta and have that all in place prenatally. Your plan to keep your placenta should be noted in your patient chart and mentioned in your birth plan.

Contact Us

If you are having a hospital birth, ask your nurse to double bag the placenta in a biohazard bag or zip lock. We recommend bringing two of your own zip lock bags. Do not rely on the hospital to provide a container. The placenta should be put on ice and refrigerated as soon after birth as possible. You will also need to bring a cooler to the hospital to transport the placenta. Arrange to have your doula, a friend or family member transport the placenta to us after delivery. Notify us via text or phone and we will coordinate for the placenta to get to us. The placenta must be properly refrigerated or frozen until preparation.

Our Options

Traditional Warm Method

Traditional warm method is inspired by traditional Chinese medicine and follows the preparation of lightly steaming the placenta before dehydration. Lemon and ginger can be added to the steaming pot (at no additional cost, per client’s request) to aid digestion, and promote warming for the birthing person.

More Details

Birthing people who take traditional warm method pills report a tonifying effect, or a building of energy. Clients who choose this method often feel comforted knowing there is more research on this particular method because it follows traditional Chinese techniques.

Raw Method

The raw, non-steamed method follows similar principles of a raw food diet, it is said to retain more vitamins and helpful enzymes. Clients who take raw pills have experienced high bursts of energy, with almost immediate effects. Raw method skips the steaming process altogether, however it is dehydrated at higher levels than the raw food diet, to follow safety standards.

More Details

Clients who choose this method often want to retain as many of the placenta’s amazing nutrients as possible.

Raw Cube Preparation

The raw cube preparation is the only truly raw method, meaning the placenta has not been steamed or dehydrated, which is the process used to encapsulate the placenta. When choosing this preparation, the placenta will be prepared and frozen into cubes for immediate or future use. These cubes can then be put into fruit smoothies and consumed. Effects are similar to the raw method of encapsulation.

More Details

This preparation is not recommended for women who test positive for GBS during this pregnancy.

(drop off and mailing is not an add-on option for this method)

Placenta tincture is a remedy that is potent and long lasting. Small pieces of the placenta are placed into a dropper bottle with a high proof alcohol and as it ferments, the alcohol extracts the essential properties of the placenta. This is a great addition to get the most out of your placenta, since the placenta tincture will be available to use long after the capsules are all gone. Tinctures may be saved for PMS symptoms, or sometimes even as long as menopause!
